The essence of Rockwall County Helping Hands is the Assistance and Referral Program. The assistance program provides Rockwall residents in financial crisis with strategic financial assistance for critical needs. Help is available for electric, water and gas bills and rent and mortgage payments.

More than 14,000 bags of food are distributed from the food pantry every year and applicants can access job assistance through the Family Independence Initiative.

Transient assistance is provided with Salvation Army funds collected during the holiday kettle drive. Helping Hands, in cooperation with local law enforcement officials, is able to purchase bus tickets and pay for meals and overnight motel stays for people who are stranded in Rockwall.

The Health Center of Helping Hands provides primary health services to uninsured and underinsured residents of Rockwall. The Center is not free, but it provides affordable healthcare with low cost office visits and very low lab costs. Two full time family nurse practitioners work with several volunteer Rockwall physicians. A women´s healthcare nurse practitioner is available too. Management of chronic diseases like diabetes, asthma and high blood pressure, annual sports physicals and flu shots are some services provided at the clinic.
